The three-door i3 coupe has a carbon-fibre body which BMW say is a development of their “stream flow’ design language. The company says that the interior aims to give a lounge-style ambience with features like the two individual rear seats.

The i3 also picks up on ‘the next big thing’ in the world of motoring – connectivity. The i3 concept coupe links internal systems and also connects to he the driver’s smartphone and the outside world.

The BMW developed electric motor produces 125 kw or 170 hp with a peak torque of 250 Newton metres. This power and torque is delivered to the rear wheels, in traditional BMW style, but with a single-speed transmission. Power for the electric motor comes from the lithium-ion storage cells under the car’s floor. The under floor location has been chosen to lower the centre of gravity.
